Our Service Projects

The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, disabled persons, health care, international understanding and goodwill, literacy and numeracy, population issues, poverty and hunger, the environment, clean water, and Polio eradication. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self."

In the 14 years of teaming up with Rise Against Hunger, the Sanford and Jonesboro Rotary Clubs have packaged over 360,000 meals in the fight to end world hunger.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

Each year, Sanford Rotarians volunteer to ring the bells for the Salvation Army of Lee County. The "red kettles" are located outside various businesses throughout Lee County. Rotarians ring the bells, greet people politely, thank those who donate, and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy day!

Pints For Polio

In observance of World Polio Day, on October 24th each year, to raise awareness about the eradication of polio, a highly infectious viral disease that primarily affects children under the age of five. The Rotary Club of Sanford and others host events and fundraisers, to support the ongoing fight against polio and to ensure that the disease is eradicated once and for all. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of vaccination and global cooperation in combating preventable diseases.

Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for over 35 years, and our goal of ridding the earth of this disease is in sight. We started in 1979 with vaccinations for 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic.
